Rain, rain go away long enough for our girls to play!

Ohio saw a whole lot of rain but Coach Castner didn't want to wait one more day to get to it! He set the game for Tuesday after the postponement on Monday. Still very gloomy and a bit drizzly - we hit the field  as the home team. Ursaline has a reputation of big bats, and they sure proved that the minute the hit the plate - huge hard hits as soon as the game began.

But our defense certainly stepped up and took control. We had a few amazing ESPN plays that took our breath away. Amanda Allen was responsible for 2 of them with her gallant stride she took a full layout on a short pop fly into center with a runner on to stop the advancement of a possible run. And then again  with a runner on a beautiful line drive she came in running scooped the ball and with her amazing strength threw home to DJ Engelman for the out at the plate. This poor runner we don't think had any clue that the ball was coming in for a play at the plate - it was beautiful.

Another exciting moment was during the 4th inning when batters number 3 and 4 got on with no errors and no outs - the Comets started to feel the pressure of the possibility of a run. The coach for Ursaline  called for a double steal but the Comets were ready and put them in a run down with Caitlin at 3rd making the tag. Following that they captured there composure to shut Ursaline down.

The Mason Comets clearly won this game on defense. Ursaline had the opportunity to put a total of 4 runs on the board but the Comets halted any ability for that to happen with their incredible diligence.

Offensively the Comets struggled to hit being shut down in the first 3 innings with 7 strikeouts, but in the 4th inning and Claire up at bat she reached on an error and that was all they needed. Amy sac'd, DJ hit a single, KP a single, and Jill a triple to score a total of 3 runs that inning. Final score was 4-0 for the Comets to clinch the Sectional Finals. With this game under out belt they move on to districts!

Next Game is the District Championship on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 1:00pm at Lakota East High School.
